Court Orders Mahdi Shehu’s Detention Over Alleged Fake News and Provocative Videos
A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna State has ordered the remand of Mahdi Shehu in prison custody over allegations of disseminating fake news and circulating false and provocative videos.
The controversial commentator and activist was arraigned following accusations that his actions were intended to incite public unrest. The prosecution argued that the videos, widely shared on social media, contained falsehoods capable of destabilizing peace in the region.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate declined a bail request, ruling that Shehu be remanded in custody pending further investigations. The case has been adjourned to 14 January 2025 for hearing.
