Updated :Police Declare Jos Bomb Scare A False Alarm After Investigation
Early this morning, residents of the Terminus area in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, Nigeria, fled in panic as rumors circulated on social media about a suspected bomb planted in the neighborhood. However, the Plateau State Police Command later confirmed it was a false alarm after thoroughly examining the area
According to Alfred Alabo, the State Police Public Relations Officer, at approximately 8:20 am the police received a report of a shallow hole suspected to contain an improvised explosive device (IED) on Murtala Mohammed Way, next to the old JUTH fence.
The State Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Adesina, immediately dispatched the Area Commander Metro and the anti-bomb squad to assess the situation. The area was cordoned off while the bomb technicians carefully examined the hole. They concluded it was safe and free of any explosives.
Commissioner Adesina, who personally visited the scene, commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation during the incident. He reassured the public that the area is secure and urged people to resume their normal activities without fear.
Cynthia Ukachukwu, a shop owner in the vicinity, told Vanguard that police and security personnel had evacuated the shops during the examination. However, by 11:25 am, authorities had given the all-clear and allowed businesses to reopen. “Nobody is running here; everywhere is calm,” she reported.
The Terminus neighborhood had previously experienced a devastating double bomb blast in 2014, which claimed an unconfirmed number of lives and left many injured. Today’s bomb scare brought back haunting memories of that tragic incident for many local residents.
