Opadotun, Babalola,Others Pay Tribute To Elder Sakin Babalola, A Pillar Of Oyo NUJ Community
In a heartfelt expression of grief, Mogaji Olugbenga Opadotun, a former Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has mourned the passing of Elder Sakin Babalola, a revered journalist, whose career left an indelible mark on the profession and the community.
Opadotun, who steered the Oyo NUJ from 2010 to 2016, eulogised Elder Babalola as a “complete gentleman and thorough-bred professional journalist,” noting that he was widely admired for his infectious smile, easygoing nature, and humility.
“Elder Babalola was a highly respected and well-loved senior colleague in the profession.
“His passing is a great loss, not just to the journalism community, but also to the people of Oyo State. His integrity and commitment to the ethics of journalism will remain a guiding light for future generations,” Opadotun said.
The loss of Elder Sakin Babalola has sent shockwaves through the journalism community in Oyo State and beyond. Many of his colleagues and associates have come forward to pay their respects and share memories of a man who was not just a journalist but a mentor and friend to many.
Chief Ademola Babalola, the current Chairman of the Oyo NUJ Council, in a chat described Elder Babalola as a “pillar of strength” in the journalism profession .
“Elder Babalola’s contributions to journalism in Oyo State are immeasurable. He was a mentor to many young journalists and a source of inspiration to us all,” Chief Babalola remarked.
“His legacy will continue to live on in the many lives he touched throughout his illustrious career,” he added.
The Correspondents’ Chapel, to which the deceased belonged, has also expressed its deep sorrow at the loss of such a distinguished figure.
In a statement signed on behalf of the Chapel by its Chairman, Mr. Adebayo Raji, they described Elder Babalola as “a beacon of journalistic excellence” and pledged to uphold the standards he set during his career.
Opadotun extended his condolences to Elder Babalola’s family, praying that the Almighty God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss of their beloved patriarch. “May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Opadotun added, emphasizing that the impact of Elder Babalola’s work would be felt for years to come.
The legacy of Elder Sakin Babalola will undoubtedly continue to inspire journalists, both within Oyo State and across Nigeria, as they strive to uphold the high standards he set in his lifetime.
