Kemi Nelson, Two Years After, We Miss You

Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson, a former deputy national woman leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), passed away two years ago.

As sources within the Lagos APC disclosed on that fateful Sunday, the news of her death sent ripples of sorrow through the hearts of many.

Today, we at First Weekly Magazine reflect on her life and legacy, remembering her with deep affection and respect.

Yeyesewa Kemi Nelson was not only a prominent political figure but also a dedicated public servant whose impact was felt far and wide.

Born on February 9, 1956, to the esteemed Tinubu-Meredith and Laja family, she embodied the virtues of diligence, service, and leadership from an early age.

Her educational journey began at Anglican Girls Primary School in Surulere and continued at Anglican Girls Grammar School in Ijebu Ode, providing a solid foundation for her future endeavours

After a brief period as a teacher at Corona School Apapa, Kemi Nelson pursued nursing and midwifery courses at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Her commitment to public service led her to serve as the Lagos State Commissioner for Establishment, Training, and Job Creation, where she made significant contributions to the state’s development.

Additionally, as the executive director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), she played a vital role in enhancing social security in Nigeria.

Her tenure as the deputy national woman leader of the APC showcased her unwavering dedication to empowering women and promoting inclusive governance.

She was a trailblazer who inspired countless women to pursue leadership roles and actively participate in politics.

Kemi Nelson’s legacy is one of service, leadership, and compassion. Her efforts in public service and her commitment to the betterment of society will not be forgotten.

As we commemorate her passing, we remember her as a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for many.
