Rights Group, CHSR, Petitions Sanwo-Olu, Obasa Over Alleged Abuse Of Rights Of Lagos Resident, Dorcas Adeyinka
The Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHSR) has petitioned the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa over an alleged denial of the fundamental human rights of a resident of the state, Mrs Dorcas Adeyinka.
The petitions dated June 26, 2024 were entitled; “A request for your urgent attention and intervention on a case of one chief Mrs. Dorcas Adeyinka who was declared wanted by Nigeria Police Force for an offence she claimed not to have committed,” and it was signed by the President of CHSR, Comrade Alex Omotehinse
Omotehinse said in the petition that as a law-abiding citizen and a critical stakeholder in the state, Adeyinka is pleading that her rights to freedom is a fundamental human right, which ought not to be trampled upon as envisaged under the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and relevant laws of Lagos State to which your excellent leadership is reputed to have demonstrated in the course of governance of the state.
“In line with CHSR statutory mandate, we received and investigated a SAVE OUR SOUL complaint letter dated June 4, 2024 from Dorcas Adeyinka Empowerment Foundation.
“Following careful review of the petition and our subsequent findings, we unraveled an orchestrated ploy to trample on her rights to means of freedom with regards to false murder allegations, illegal displaying of nude images, conspiracy to indict, and the latest action of the Nigeria Police Force in declaring her WANTED without due process, shocked and amazed us and the red alert is uncalled for, as this has gone a long way in affecting the less privileged and suffering Nigerian masses which her foundation are on daily basis taking-off the street to boost economy growth of Lagos State as an Epicenter of the country,” he said.
According to the group, Dorcas Adeyinka is a Nigerian-born British citizen, and the Chief Executive Cfficer of Dorcas Adeyinka Empowerment Foundation, a foundation of hope for thousands of Nigeria citizens.
It was added that through her foundation, she has championed various causes from educational support to business promotion, medical assistance, and palliative relief both domestically and internationally. Her unwavering dedication and selflessness have earned her widespread admiration and respect which has thrown her-up as a symbol of hope to many household due to the present economy hardship facing us as a nation.
“The petitioner believed that despite her marvelous contribution in creating wealth opportunity and human capacity building, she still found herself enmeshed in a web of harassment and false accusations orchestrated by some individuals with malicious intent.
“The cyber influencers’ bullies and frivolous murder allegation as cast a dark shadow over her reputation, threatening to tarnish her legacy built on principles of integrity and compassion. The unfounded nature of these accusations underscores the urgent needs for a thorough investigation into the motives behind such attacks.
“The petitioner was invited by Nigeria Police force to Abuja headquarters for investigation, which she appeared in person and agreed by all parties that further engagement will be communicated to them but in a shocking turn of events, the Nigeria Police Force declared her WANTED without proper notification or due process as enshrined in the Police acts, code of conduct and ethics not only violated her rights but also perpetuated the cycle of injustice,” he said.
CHSR, as a body, then called for “urgent intervention of the Lagos State government to prevail on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to kindly bring down the flagging ‘WANTED’ placed on Chief Mrs. Dorcas Adeyinka to enable her to exercise her right to freedom, so as to also ameliorate suffering faces of the poor towards human capacity building which will vehemently contribute to gross growth index of the state.”
The group added that the intervention of the Governor and that of the Speaker “will help in the alleviation of the sufferings of dependents who are mostly the poor downtrodden as this may become vulnerable to social menace as a consequence of infringement of rights to movement of Chief Dorcas Adeyinka.”
