INEC Affirms Aiyedatiwa’s Victory in APC Primary, Disowns Jimoh Ibrahim’s INEC Reports
In a major boost for democracy, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s win in the All Progressives Congress (APC) direct primary election.
The commission’s affidavit, filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, states that the primary was conducted in substantial compliance with the law, and disowns Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s results.
Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious, polling 48,569 votes and winning 16 out of 18 local government areas. Mayowa Akinfolarin came second with 15,343 votes, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim trailed behind with 9,456 votes.
With INEC’s affirmation, Aiyedatiwa is the APC’s flag bearer in the November gubernatorial election, enjoying the support and trust of the people. The APC chairman, has therefore urged aspirants to unite behind Aiyedatiwa, praising their courage and determination.
This development marks a significant milestone in Ondo State’s political history, demonstrating the power of democracy and the rule of law. As Aiyedatiwa prepares for the November election, his commitment to serving the people remains unwavering.
The affidavit of INEC also stated that both the Police & DSS monitored the election and they all gave a clean report of the direct primary election as it complied with the law.
Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, hailed the affirmation as a vindication of Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law. “This is a great day for our state and our democracy,” Ajulo said. “The people can have faith in the judicial process, and the just shall be justified.”
