Amidst the evolving situation in Kogi State, indications suggested a potential rift between the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, and his political mentor, former Governor Yahaya Bello. Reports from the state indicated brewing crisis between the two figures.

Observers of political dynamics in Kogi State have noted Alhaji Usman Ododo’s seemingly unwavering loyalty to his predecessor, particularly evidenced by statements attributed to the current Governor, instructing his aides to comply with directives from Yahaya Bello, even if they conflict with his own.
Sources within the Government House, speaking anonymously, have disclosed mounting pressure on Governor Ododo to take the younger sister of the immediate past First Lady, Hajia Rashida Bello, as his second wife.
Some sources however suggested the lady in question is related to Yahaya Bello’s controversial Chief of Staff, Abdulkareem Asuku, with the aim of positioning her as the next First Lady of the state.
Allegedly, the current First Lady, Hajia Sefiyah Ododo, has resisted this move, leading to internal conflicts and attempts to prevent the installation of a new First Lady.
Complicating matters further, former Governor Yahaya Bello and his wife, Rashida, reportedly remain in the Government House despite his exit from office, amidst ongoing legal issues involving an alleged N10 billion money laundering case filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Governor Usman Ododo is said to currently reside in his former apartment from his tenure under Bello’s administration, while Bello occupies the Presidential suite within Lord Lugard House.
Stakeholders have urged Governor Ododo to assert his authority and distinguish his administration from the previous one, calling for Bello’s eviction from the Government House.
The unfolding events in the coming days, weeks, and months will shed further light on how the situation will be managed and how the current government plans to assert its independence from the previous administration.
