Top Abuja Store Sealed By Federal Government …As Crackdown On Hoarding, Price Fixing Begins After Tinubu’s Directive

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Friday closed down a popular supermarket, known as Sahad Store in the Garki area of Abuja.

It was learned Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, Acting Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, led the team that sealed off the store after its management was accused of shortchanging customers by charging prices other than the price tag at the shelves, according to report.

Abdullahi said the commission’s preliminary inquiry indicated that the supermarket’s management was shortchanging customers. He stated that the store would remain sealed till the investigation is completed.

This comes barely 24 hours after it was reported that President Bola Tinubu had directed the Inspector General of Police, Department of State Services, and National Security Adviser to go after those hoarding food items in warehouses across the country.

This directive was made during a meeting the President had with governors on Thursday in Abuja. It was contained in a press statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy.

The statement said the step was necessary to address the rising cost of food items in the market across the country, urging all the state governments to emulate Kano State by monitoring the major food marketers in their respective states.
