TUC Stages Protest To Lagos Assembly Over RTEAN

Members of the Trade Union Congress, TUC
besieged the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday to express their displeasure over the Lagos State government’s alleged handling of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN.
The National President of the TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, who led the union members, said that the Lagos State government created the RTEAN form the TUC and that they had a pact.
“Now the same Lagos State government is trying to disband the body.
“They have forcefully gone to the office of RTEAN to remove documents binding the body and the state government, took the cars given to the body and went away with the property in the office of RTEAN,” Osifo said.
Comrade Nuhu Toro, Secretary General of the TUC, buttressed the claim of the President, adding: “The state government promised the workers some packages but until date, these packages have not been received.”
He implored then state government to live up to its words and keep up with its promises.
Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, who received the protesters on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, commended their.leadership for the peaceful nature of the protest.
Kasunmu assured the body that their message would be forwarded to the Speaker just as he assured them that they will soon hear from the leadership of the House.
“The Speaker is a proactive and efficient leader and he will definitely do justice to your letter.
“When we sit at plenary, your letter will be presented and I assure you that you will hear from the State government soon,” he told the protesters.
The lawmaker urged the protesters to return peacefully and await the response of the House in due course.
