The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has declared that more than 18,000 personnel will be engaged in the next LG polls in Oyo State, saying that it will not engage men of the Western Nigerian Security Network (WNSN), also known as Amotekun, in the conduct of the election.

OYSIEC Chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, disclosed this on Thursday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents Chapel’s guest platform programme tagged “Speak Out.”
We gathered that the commission has concluded plans to conduct the local government election in April next year.
Olagunju, while speaking at the event in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, noted that the commission will not be partisan in the conduct of the election and that it will engage the police, army, DSS, and NSCDC in the election.
He further disclosed that OYSIEC will screen candidates of the various registered political parties for the election soon.
We have over 6,000 polling units now in Oyo State, and we will have at least three people in a polling unit. So, we will have about 18,000 personnel. We will engage them and give them the necessary training,” he said.
While welcoming the guests to the forum, Chairman of correspondent chapel, Raji Adebayo assured the Commission that members of the chapel will give the commission’s programmes wide coverages and urged the chairman of the commission to operate an open door policy for journalists to carry out their duties without fear of intimidation.
He also also urged the Commission’s chairman to provide maximum security for journalists that will cover the election process.
