Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, Americas (NIDOA), USA, has strongly condemned the “mindless killing of Ms. Ajike Owens by a neighbor in Ocala, Florida, United States of America and the undue four-day delay in arresting the culprit, Susan Lorincz.”

While demanding Justice for Ms. Owens, the group said in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr. Eromonsele Idahosa, and Public Relations Officer, Dr. Yinka Tella, and dated June 11, 2023 that “we strongly advocate a repeal of Florida’s “Stand your Ground law,” which seems to have become an enabler of bigoted attacks like the one that just took Ms. Owen’s life.”

The group stressed that “the law is divisive and unjust because it allows the roles of perpetrator and victim to become reversed once the aggressor claims self defense with the burden of proof flipped.”

“We urge the Nigerian government through our consulate in Atlanta and NIDCOM to actively engage the US government and monitor the court proceedings to ensure that the rights of Ms. Ajike Owens and her family are fully protected in this matter. Justice must be served swiftly and fairly,” the statement read.
