2023 Polls: Oyo INEC Ready For February 25 Elections

The Resident Electoral Commissioner REC in Oyo State, Dr. Adeniran Tella has disclosed that the Commission has been given cash by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to conduct itch free Presidential, Senatorial, and Federal House of Representatives elections in Oyo State on Saturday February 25, 2023.

Tella disclosed this, while featuring on the NUJ Correspondents Chapel’s guest platform tagged; “Speak Out”

To buttress the readiness of the Commission to conduct the election in view of the cash crisis, the Resident Electoral Commissioner disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been given the needed by the CBN to ease movement of electoral materials and other logistics to various polling units across the state.

He disclosed that a total of 2, 305, 903 electorates are expected to vote in the forthcoming general elections in Oyo State.

He said that the eligible voters will vote in the 6,390 polling units spread across the 33 local government areas in the state.

He informed that a total of 760,766 PVCs are yet to be collected.

The REC said that the commission was ready to conduct free, fair, credible and acceptable elections this 2023.

He called on all eligible voters to go out enmasse and vote for candidates of their choice during the elections and charged stakeholders to cooperate with the commission.

Tella said, “I have the opportunity to tell you the level of our preparedness. This has reached advanced stages. This is also an opportunity for us to again come out and talk to you.

“As long as you have your PVC, come out to vote during the elections. So, we are trying to put our heads together.”

He however, disclosed that all the adhoc staff needed for the conduct of acceptable elections in the state had received intensive training, adding that the synergy and cooperation among the security operatives in the state will be an added advantage to prevent cross border hoodlums to perpetuate illegal acts during the election.
