Why Tinubu’s Educational Issues Won’t Go Away -Truth About His “Disputed Certificates,” Why He Can’t Be Prosecuted
Facts have emerged about why the issues surrounding the educational background of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not good away.
The matter, which started many years back, when Tinubu was the Lagos State Governor, has since “become a recurring decimal, which many of his adversaries regularly feast on.”
Sources close to the celebrated politician revealed that the report was quite unexpected, but that “there are enough evidences to show that the people behind the reports are just interested in bringing Tinubu down at all cost.”
A source maintained that the news might not go away so soon because “Tinubu has become one of the few privileged Nigerians with a mission to liberate the masses from poverty and oppression as against the plans of some ruling elites.”
He added that the peddlers of the news have not been able to proof their allegations beyond reasonable doubt and that “many Nigerians have since discovered the motives behind the reports and the shenanigans would not stop what God has ordained for this great man.”
“Brilliant Treasurer at Mobil Nigeria and quick-witted accountant with a foreign firm known for forensic accounting, Deloitte . And you believe he accomplished all these feats without a primary and secondary school education.
“If Tinubu didn’t attend primary and secondary school, and could not provide a proof for his university certificate, how did he pass the alleged rigorous screening process to become a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and then the State governor of Lagos?” said a source, who added that “the peddlers of the news have failed before and they will fail again.”
Recall that there was a petition dated August 12, 1999 about the educational background and age of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu written by Alhaji Jammed Seriki & Dr. Waliu Balogu-Smith.
They accused him of lying about his age in his nominating form to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Subsequently, the late Chief Gani Fawenhinmi went to court to seek for prosecution of Tinubu up to Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court ruled that Tinubu could not be prosecuted by the police for alleged certificate forgery, and that only the Lagos State House of Assembly could investigate him.
Also, on June 4, 2013, one Dr. Dominic Adegbola asked the Federal High Court under Justice Saliu Saidu to re – open the suit filed by Gani Fawehinmi in 1999.
The suit was to compel the Inspector General of Police to commence investigation into alleged forgery.
The court later dismissed the case, and said that the applicant went to sleep since 2007 when the “toga of immunity “ could no longer shield Tinubu and suddenly woke up when the matter is statute barred.
Till today, the court has exonerated Tinubu of any forgery even after leaving office.
Based on the decision of the Supreme Court, the Lagos State House of Assembly under the then Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olorunimbe Mamora (currently Minister of State for Health) opened a probe via a motion moved by Hon. Tajudeen Agoro and a 5 man adhoc committee was set up with Hon, now Senator Babajide Omoworare as the Chairman .
The committee sent out letters of invitation to the writers of the petition, who refused to substantiate their petition.
The committee even went to the addresses provided by the petitioners, but they could not find them.
However, Tinubu was invited by the committee based on the petition.
Tinubu went with his, lawyer, Mr..Femi Falana (SAN).
He admitted to the “needless errors” being pointed out by the petitioners” and that it was Senator Tokunbo Akifuyomi that did the documentation.
Then he submitted a copy of his senatorial candidature form under the then Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the Committee dated June 1, 1992, which he used to contest the 1992 senatorial election and won as the senator representing Lagos West.
Tinubu personally filled the form and he attached the certificates of Richard Daley College and Chicago State University.
Now, INEC in 1999 committed an error in INEC form CF01 that bore a wrong date of December 28, 1999 instead of December 28, 1998. Commissioner of Oath detected the error.
For record purposes, Tinubu could not complete his secondary school education because of poverty, and he decided to leave for the United States of America for greener pastures.
He did a lot of menial jobs and suffered like every young man without rich parents or uncle or rich twitter boys and girls.
After five years,Tinubu enrolled at Richard Daley.
Tinubu did not complete his education in secondary school, therefore the college offered him basic, remedial and academic classes like IJMB in local Nigeria. He passed his remedial courses and he was offered admission to Chicago University.
He later obtained Bachelor of Science in Business & Administration and his major was in Accounting.
He had no scholarship awards like some other people and he was in Chicago University from August 1977 to June 1979. He later worked with Deloitte Haskins.
Tinubu was an employee of Mobil Oil of Nigeria in December 1983 when Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babaginda, Dasuki, David Mark were preparing to overthrow the late president Shehu Shagari and he used to pass through Dodan Barracks not knowing that fate would link him with Buhari later. He was there till May 17, 1992.
Chief Gani Fawenhimi also appeared before the assembly committee to give testimony, and said that the committee should determine if the law has been breached.
Then Femi Falana appeared on behalf of Tinubu that no evidence had been led to show that Tinubu presented forged certificate to INEC. Chicago University
It was also discovered that Chicago University confirmed that Tinubu was a student of their University and he secured admission through Richard Daley College.
The committee later sought legal advice from Chief Fred Agbaje, a distinguished lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba, Deacon Dele Adeshina, former chairman of the Ikeja, Lagos branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).
The committee’s finding on the allegation of forgery was that “we have no evidence that any forged document was presented to INEC”
