More married women getting into drugs – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has decried the increasing involvement of married women in drug abuse.

The Assistant Superintendent in charge of Exhibits at the Sokoto State Command, Ali Baba Mustapha, dropped the hint at the Jigawa Day celebration organised by indigenes of the state at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto on Sunday.

He said women took cough syrups that contained codeine more than any segment of the society, believing that it would enhance their sexual appetite.

Mustapha warned that if unchecked, the trend could lead to marital problems and even divorce.
He dismissed the belief that cough syrups enhance sexual appetite. Mustapha also dismissed the belief that illicit drugs help students during examinations, saying it rather confuses them. The outgoing chairman of Jigawa State Students Association, Musa Isiyaku Birnin Kudu, urged executive members of the association to consolidate on his achievements and initiate more programmes to improve the condition of members. The new chairman, Mubarak Turaki Hadeja, assured members that he would strive to justify the confidence reposed in him.
