Excitement As Saint Patrick’s Grammar School Ibadan ’89 Set Organises Maiden Reunion After 33 Years
The very first reunion of Saint Patrick’s Grammar School, Orita Bashorun, Ibadan, Oyo State Old Students Association, took place on Friday March 25 and Saturday March 26, 2022 with an air of excitement.
Members of the association were filled with gratitude to God for sparing their lives to meet again when they gathered at an event centre in Ibadan after 33 long years of graduating from their alma mater.
The maiden reunion of the 1989 set featured interesting activities such as free medical outreach programme, health talk, financial talk, cutting of reunion cake and so on.
The major activity at the reunion programme, which witnessed turn out of members within and outside the shores of Nigeria, was the amendment of the constitution of the association which was done by all the members present.
Speaking at the event, the President of the association, Reverend Oluniyi Daunsi hinted that the programme was conceived to bring together, celebrate, and reconnect with the old friends they grow together with.
Rev. Daunsi, who is now the Deputy Director with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Ibadan zone added that they also used the opportunity to organise a seminar in partnership with the Department of Child Health Care and Dentistry, University College Hospital on oral hygiene for students and teachers of their alma mater wherein hundreds of individuals examined their teeth free of charge and a talk on how to live a healthy life at 50.
Professor Toyin Fajimi, a Consultant in the United States of America, among others present, spoke about issues that would be of great benefit to their members who are 50 years and above.
In a chat with First Weekly Magazine, Mr Adebowale Oderinde, who is now a banker expressed happiness for being reunited with his mates after 33 years after graduation from high school.
According to him, “you can see that all over the places it has been joy, exchange of banters and so on. It reminds me of the old time, how we used to fight, talk, abused each other.
“The kind of relationships we had then we never knew it was going to be useful to everyone of us in the future. I pray we continue to live in peace together.”
Similarly, the duo of Apostle Paul Oyelade of the Triumphant Mercy Assembly, United Kingdom, an I.T. consultant and Dr Toyin Fajimi also from the United States of America expressed their delight for reuniting with their colleagues.
According to Apostle Oyelade “what we are doing here is a vision that was given birth to three and a half years ago, where the passion to bring together all the ex-students of set 1989 of St. Patrick’s Grammar School, our alma mater together for the primary purposes of flowing together to work as a team.
“33 years after we left secondary school, I am glad that God is doing wonderful things in our lives today. For our people that are here, I want to thank God for them. Some of them left their busy schedule to come here all across Nigeria and from all over the world.
“I came from the United Kingdom and I have seen people from Germany, America, Italy and across the globe. The primary purpose is to come together so as to know what each and everyone is doing so that we can know where we can help one another, where we need help, where we need a push and encouragement from here and there.”
To Dr. Toyin Fajimi, “I am so happy because in this gathering we have a lot of talents from those who are now journalists, to those who are into financial sectors, to those who are into medicine and those who are even into farming. So I am happy that I am around my colleagues and friends. Some I have not seen in over 30 years, some the very day we dropped our pen, we have not seen each other and it is great coming together now to see that we are all alive and are all doing good professionally, helping and supporting one another. It’s a great joy to be among my friends!”
In rounding off the reunion, members were lavishly treated to sumptuous meals, assorted drinks and they danced to various old school musics supplied by a D.J
