Again, Court Rejects Abba Kyari’s Bail Application

An Abuja federal high court has denied bail to Abba Kyari, a suspended deputy commissioner of police (DCP).

In a ruling on Monday, Inyang Ekwo, the Presiding Judge, noted that Kyari’s application had been affected by recent events following an order of a sister court granting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)’s request to detain him for another 14 days in order to complete its investigation.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, declared Kyari wanted for drug trafficking on February 14th.

Kyari also tried to bribe an official of the agency with $61,000 in order to facilitate the release of cocaine seized from him. He sought bail on health grounds at a federal high court in Abuja last week. Justice Ekwo denied his request, holding that the sister court, which made the order in favor of NDLEA on Feb. 22, was a court of coordinate jurisdiction.
