Governments at all levels have been advised to promote sporting activities in schools to engage the youths and avert anti-social vices, which could aggravate the insecurity situation in the nation.

The Founder and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen-In-Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabit Ariyo Olagoke stated this in his address during the Inter- House Sports activities of Shafaudeen Group of Schools.

Prof. Sabit maintained that youths, with their enormous powers, can do anything if they are not properly engaged.

He also advised the government to restore and revisit all the nation’s recreational centers and make sporting equipments available and accessible to youths so that they could be meaningfully engaged.

He said, “In those days, it was through inter-house sports that talents were discovered and developed into skills. We should revisit this as I am doing today. If this is done, Nigeria will be better for it.

“Education without sports is not complete. The government needs to go back to school sports, and all they need are good advisers and representatives to achieve the same.

“We must make sure that sports take a vital position in our schools because sports is all engaging, and it stops youths from going into anti- social activities.

“Our recreational centres need to be revisited so that we can meaningfully engage those youths. The centres should be in all our wards with sports equipments that will be accessible to all.

“Youths have enormous powers and if they are not meaningful engaged they will divert those powers and strength to something else,” Prof. Sabit said.
