Gen. Adeniyi Convicted Over Leaked Video Of Discontent Among Troops
Former Theatre Commander of the military operations in the Northeast against Boko Haram, styled as Operation Lafiya Dole, Major Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi has been convicted of violating the military guidelines on social media.
He is to be demoted by at least three years for the leaked video that showed him eight months ago complaining of lack of weapons to fight Boko Haram and alleging sabotage within the military.
Gen. Adeniyi was convicted by a court martial which sat in Abuja.
His aide, Private Tokunbo Obanla who was prosecuted along with him and was found to have leaked the recording is to serve 28 days in jail with hard labour according to the military court.
Adeniyi had in that video complained about lack of resources to prosecute the war against Boko Haram and thus pleaded for help.
Upon the leakage of the video, Adeniyi was withdrawn from the front and reposted to as a research fellow at an army think tank in Abuja.
Obanla was said to have admitted posting the video online by mistake.
