Akpabio Unscarred By Damaging Allegations

The problems of Senator Godswill Akpabio are not impacting on his political fortunes in the state, political stakeholders in the state have said.

Senator Akpabio, the minister of Niger Delta Affairs has recently been in the news over allegations of corruption in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and sexual harassment raised against him by the erstwhile acting managing director of the NDDC, Ms. Joi Nunieh.

But reacting to the development, a major political stakeholder in the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC described the issues about Akpabio as a governance issue with little impact on the politics of the state at the moment.

“This is a governance issue relating to his work in Abuja and at the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and it has minimal impact on the politics of the state at the moment,” the stakeholder who had in the past also had his own issues with Akpabio in the state told GWG.

It was gathered that so long as the convention is still far away that the opportunity of damage on Akpabio were for now minimal but added:

“Politics is very dynamic and if as we get to the convention that there is an opportunity and if there is a prey just as in the Days of the Jackal, then the vultures could then go in for the kill, but for now the problems in Abuja remain disconnected from his relevance at home,” the source said.

Akpabio, the immediate past governor of the state and the highest office holder in the party, is the leader of the APC in the state.
