The Chairman of the Pension Committee of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Constituency, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has debunked the report going round that exotic official cars were recently purchased for federal lawmakers.

Rurum said that at this critical moment, when the whole world is jittery and battling hard to contain the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic of which Nigeria is not an exception, “some people are busy spreading unfounded rumour about imaginary official cars bought for federal lawmakers.”

Hon. Rurum made these assertions, while chatting with newsmen in Kano recently.

The former speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, said that there was no such thing as purchase of official cars for federal lawmakers, and that the report was “a figment of the imagination of some mischief makers.”

The politician described the story “as a malicious report in the social and traditional media aimed at destroying our hard-earned image.”

He added that it was “irrational for someone to make such a false claim at the time, when the whole nation is at the middle of a global-health crisis, trying to complement the efforts of the Federal Government in mobilizing the entire citizenry on how to stop the spread of Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.’

“The two chambers of the National Assembly had closed since last week and there isn’t an iota of truth in the report that official vehicles were bought for us,” he said.

Rurum further said that the issue of procurement of cars for federal lawmakers was raised almost three months ago, but that nothing had been done about it till date.

”I want to crave the indulgence of members of the public to please confirm any story that goes viral before they consider it as authentic,” he said.

Hon. Rurum however, pleaded with Nigerians to abide by the measures being taken by the Federal and state governments on self-protection and the prevention of the spread of the dreaded COVID-19.

The lawmaker emphasized that prayers and intensive supplications were highly and urgently needed for God’s intervention at this time in Nigeria and in the world at large, saying that everybody is jittery over the calamity that has followed the spread of COVID-19 all around the globe.
