Amaechi, Mbu In Fresh War Of Words

Ex- Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, and the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, have engaged in a war of words.
Following Amaechi’s statement on Thursday that the ex-police commissioner almost ruined the state’s economy during his tenure, Mbu replied that as a lion, he was able to tame the governor, who he referred to as a leopard.
He stated this while handing over to his FCT successor, Wilson Inalegwu.
“I advise you (CP) to carry the senior officers along in your administration. It is only a lion that can tame a leopard. I tamed the leopard in Port Harcourt. Each time he remembers my face, he would remember how I tamed him,” Mbu said.
Mbu, recently promoted to an Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, is best known for his face-off with the Rivers State governor during his tenure as the police commissioner in the state.
He was redeployed from Rivers State to the Federal Capital Territory on February 6.
The outgoing CP advised Inalegwu to carry his senior officers along in his duty.
He also told Inalegwu to be firm in his dealings with personnel in his command while carrying out his duties.

“I have sworn allegiance to Nigeria and to this Police uniform, that anyone who stops me from doing my job, I will crush him. The Police at the command needs strong leadership. The moment you start asking your men to bring building materials you have soiled yourself and they will no longer respect you,” he said.
Meanwhile, Amaechi had on Thursday alleged that the ex-police commissioner almost ruined his state’s economy.
While receiving the outgoing Rivers State CP, Tunde Ogunshakin, and and his successor, Dan Bature, on Thursday in his office, the governor said Mbu abandoned his professional role of protecting lives and property to serve the members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Ogunshakin was sent to replace Mbu in Rivers State, after the governor repeatedly demanded Mbu’s transfer.

Ogunshakin was, however, redeployed recently while a new commissioner, Dan Bature, was posted to the state.
Amaechi praised Ogunshakin saying that he did not quiver in his line of duty as a police commissioner even when they had a misunderstanding.
The governor said Mbu showed everyone in the state that he is a registered member of the ruling party, the PDP.
“Unlike Joseph Mbu, who clearly showed us that he was a registered member of PDP, in your (Ogunsakin) own case, you know that we had disagreement, but you realized your responsibility to ensure the security of lives and property as the paramount responsibility of the Nigerian Police,” Gov. Amaechi said.

A face-off between the former CP and Amaechi, began to receive serious coverage in the media after the violence in the Rivers State House of Assembly in July 2013.
Amaechi had accused Mbu of colluding with the presidency to undermine his government.
Gov. Amaechi is one of the five PDP’s governors who decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
