Naira Swap Crisis: Dapo Abiodun Directs Ogun Residents To Accept Old Naira Notes
Sequel to the daily trauma and untold hardship being experienced by the residents of Ogun State over the scarcity of new naira notes and rejection of old notes despite the Supreme Court judgment that granted that the notes should be accepted, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has ordered the residents of the state to continue to spend the old notes and regard them as legal tender till December 31, 2023.
The Governor gave the order due to the refusal of many residents of the state to accept the old N500 and N1000 notes.
“I am hereby sounding a note of warning to any merchant, trader, bank or petrol station that are not collecting the old naira notes that if you are reported to me i will deal with you to the fullest extent under the law,” he said.
The Governor added that the Supreme Court of Nigeria is the highest court of the land, noting that the old naira notes remain legal tender till December 31, 2023.
