An amalgamation of young professionals across all the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria under the banner of 372 Youth Empowerment Network has strongly condemned the call for the removal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPCL, Mallam Mele Kyari.
In a statement issued by its National Co-ordinator, Mohammed Saidu and co-signed by Hon Dayo Okewale and Chidi Nwogwugwu, National Secretary and National organizing Secretary respectively, the group described the call as “selfish, self-serving, misplaced and grand distraction orchestrated to serve motives other than the advancement of the country.”
The call was described as an ulterior motives, one of which they said is “to undermine the great achievements recorded by NNPCL under Mele Kyari’s watch.”
The statement further described Kyari as a thoroughbred professional, whose  commitment to excellence and capacity to deliver on NNPCL’s mandate cannot be questioned.
“He stands out as having led the organisation to post an increase of crude oil production from 800,000 bpd to 1.6 m bpd within a short period.
“The GMD has also creditable navigated the affairs of NNPCL with widely acclaimed expertise, professionalism and transparency during this obviously challenging times.
“He has also demonstrated unprecedented penchant for transparency by declaring and publishing the organisation’s audited financial statements for the past three years,” the statement read.
The statement also highlighted the pivotal role Kyari played in the passage and implementation of the petroleum industry act, which they said is meant to promote greater investment and accountability in the industry.
The group however, acknowledged the fact that the country is going through difficult times, but declared that just as the Minister of Finance and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria cannot be asked to be removed because of the nation’s economic woes, Mele Kyari cannot be held responsible for the challenges the nation is experiencing in the petroleum sector.
“Every step taken by Mele Kyari is in line with Mr President’s renewed hope agenda.
The group added that the positive results of the various reforms embarked upon by NNPCL will soon begin to yield results.
They also advised that all hands should be on deck to “support Mr Mele Kyari to conclude these reforms instead of distracting him and Mr President by unnecessary heating up of the system by calling for his removal.”
They added that Mr President has implicit and unshaken confidence in the ability of Mallam Mele Kyari to deliver.
According to them, some of those calling for Kyari’s removal are behind the problems we are facing. They believe that Kyari is an impediment to their nefarious activities.
The 372 youth Empowerment Network finally appealed to those behind the distraction to have a rethink and instead join hands with Mele Kyari and the NNPCL to proffer sustainable solutions to the lingering challenges in the petroleum industry.
The group promised to deploy its vast network across all the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to support the NNPCL under the leadership of Mallam Mele Kyari to achieve more successes in the delivery of their mandate within the shortest possible period.
