Aspirants into the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibadan South West Local Government have warned the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the two constituencies in the area not to implement their plans of imposing candidates on the people, which they said can negatively affect the party in the 2023 general elections.

This was contained in a release jointly signed by some of the aspirants and made available to journalists.

The aspirants disclosed that they have all agreed to go to the field to test their popularity through primaries as against the alleged consensus being planned by some leaders of the party.

The aspirants then called on Governor Seyi Makinde of the state, to as a matter of urgency, call on the concerned leaders “not to destroy the party by imposing candidates on the people.”

“Be it known that we never agreed to consensus arrangement as being rumored in Ibadan Southwest Local Government Constituencies 1 and 2.

“We discovered that arrangement has been perfected to impose consensus candidates on us.

“Our resolve is to adopt primary election to determine, who will represent our party (PDP) in the general election into the Oyo State House of Assembly and we are ready to support whoever emerges among us, even if it is the incumbent, on this we stand,” they said in the statement.
