2023: Nigeria’s Restructuring Is Long Overdue-Fagbemi

A legal icon, Barrister Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) has said that the restructuring of Nigeria is long overdue.

Fagbemi disclosed this, while speaking with journalists during the annual symposium of the Muslims Students Society (MSSN) B Zone, which took place at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan over the weekend.

Also speaking at the event, a former National Legal Adviser of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Muiz Banire, disclosed that Nigeria needed a benevolent dictator to move the country forward.

Banire, while speaking on the topic “Ethno-Religious agitation and imperative inclusiveness,” stressed that Nigeria needed a benevolent dictator, who will help to restructure the country in 2023.

“Nigeria needs a benevolent dictator. He should be someone that will help us to restructure this country. But I don’t know how we can get him.

“We should also address the allocation of resources. All these are against some regions. The number of local governments in your state determines the resources you get,” he said.

Banire, while speaking on the way out of the present challenges facing the country, suggested that there must be inclusiveness.

“There must be inclusiveness. Under the civilian administration, there will still be injustice; the same thing happened under the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

“Some of our brothers will say it can be done by divine intervention and Allah has warned us that He will not change the condition of people unless they change their ways. I used to be a nationalist, but it has also happened to me. I am a victim.

“We now have to go back to regional government. Let each region develop on its own pace so as to address the agitations. My conclusion is that we are at a crossroad. Let us outsource the management of Nigeria to an external body.”

Prominent Nigerians, who were also present at the event included the Executive Secretary of Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Professor Muslih Tayo Yahyah, Dr. Amao Alaga, MSSN National Amir, Malam Uthman Abubakar and MSSN B Zone Amir, Barrister Qaasim Odedeji.

Others were the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Osun State, Professor Abdulganiyu Raji, former MSSN National Amir, Dr. Taofiq Yekeen and the Iyalaje Adeen of Oyo State, Alhaja Romoke Ayinde who owns Karom Lee Sports Centre.
